Buyer's Guide

Everything you need to know before you buy.

Hyperbaric chambers are a significant purchase. This guide covers chamber types, pressure levels, space requirements, inclusions, pricing and the most common questions buyers ask before committing.

Chamber Types

Soft shell vs hard shell - which is right for you?

The two main categories of hyperbaric chambers differ in construction, pressure ceiling, cost, and how they're installed. Most individual buyers choose a soft chamber for home use. Clinics and serious performance users often step up to hard shell.

Pressure (ATA)

Understanding pressure levels

ATA stands for Atmospheres Absolute - the measure of total pressure inside the chamber. Normal atmospheric pressure at sea level is 1.0 ATA. All hyperbaric use occurs above this baseline.

1.2-1.3 ATA

Entry-level

The minimum effective range for most published wellness protocols. Accessible and comfortable, particularly for first-time users.

1.3-1.5 ATA

Most common

The sweet spot for personal wellness use. Covers the majority of published research protocols for athletic recovery, sleep and general wellbeing.

1.5-2.0 ATA

Clinical/semi-clinical

Used in clinical research settings. Requires a hard-shell chamber. The pressure range most often referenced in wound and neurological research.

All HBOT Australia chambers are sold as wellness equipment, not medical devices. The pressure ranges above are for informational reference only. Consult a qualified health professional before use, particularly if you have existing medical conditions.

FAQ

Common questions before buying

What ATA pressure do I need?

1.3-1.5 ATA is the most common range for personal wellness use and is what most published protocols use in athletic recovery and general wellness research. Hard-shell chambers can reach 1.5-2.0 ATA and are preferred for applications studied in clinical research settings. For home wellness use, a soft chamber at 1.3-1.5 ATA covers the vast majority of published protocols.

Soft chamber vs hard chamber - which should I buy?

Soft chambers are more affordable ($17,000-$19,000 AUD), portable, and suitable for home installation without structural modifications. Hard-shell chambers ($44,000+) reach higher pressures (up to 2.0 ATA), are more durable for heavy daily use, and are preferred for semi-clinical or commercial settings. Most individual buyers choose soft chambers.

How much space do I need for a hyperbaric chamber?

A soft lay-down chamber requires approximately 2.5m x 1m of floor space, plus clearance around it for entry and exit. A hard-shell chamber needs approximately 3m x 1.5m and often requires a dedicated room. Ceiling height of at least 2.2m is recommended for both types.

What power supply does a hyperbaric chamber need?

HBOT Australia soft chambers run on a standard Australian 240V/10A household power point. No special electrical work is required. The Elite hard-shell chamber requires a dedicated 240V/15A circuit - your electrician can install this in a few hours.

Do I need oxygen concentrators?

Our chambers come with oxygen concentrators included. You breathe air inside the chamber at elevated pressure; the concentrators supplement with high-purity oxygen. No external oxygen cylinders or medical gas accounts are required.

What does delivery and installation include?

All HBOT Australia chambers include delivery to your door anywhere in Australia. Our team handles placement in your chosen room, full assembly, a pressurisation test, and a walk-through so you know how to operate the chamber safely and confidently.

Can I finance a hyperbaric chamber?

Yes. Business and personal finance options are available. Contact us for an introduction to our finance partners - many buyers structure this as a business asset with applicable tax treatment. We recommend speaking with your accountant.
